WIGAN V CALDERDALE 19TH AUGUST 2007 –ROBIN PARK SPORTS CENTRE WIGAN - Final Score Wigan 70- Calderdale 80

The Game began frantically with neither team really exploiting the width of the court when in attack.
Both teams’ defences in the first half remained tight with few handling errors. Towards the end of the first half the home side Wigan began to push on a little using quick drives through the centre. However as one side scored the other replied and that was the pattern of a close first half with the score 28- 30 to Calderdale. The 2nd half started in similar fashion to the first - even and competitive. Watching from the sidelines both teams looked a little disorganised when kicking on the 5th tackle. In the midway point of the game it was Calderdale who slowly began to exert control and looked the stronger physically and mentally, eventually opening up a lead of two tries Wigan fought back valiantly but looked tired and couldn’t close the gap enough paying for occasional concentration lapses. It ended 70-80 to Calderdale an entertaining game all-round thanks to all who officiated and helped organise the game and a special thanks to BBC TV for covering the event on the North West Tonight programme.

The first game played between two English clubs was played at the Robin Park Sports Centre, Wigan between Wigan and District Wheelchair RL Club and The Calderdale Cardinals on 25th. November 2006.
The score at half-time was 28 - 28 with the final score 62 points to Wigan and 36 to Calderdale.
Non of the players had played the game seriously until April 2006.
Thanks have to be given to the two referees who are two young rugby players.
